Duo Ostinato est une rencontre où l’exigence de l’interprétation côtoie la liberté de l’improvisation. Fondée en 2015, cette formation s’est rapidement forgé une belle réputation sur le plan international : concerts en France, Allemagne, Autriche, Italie, Espagne, Finlande, Hongrie, Slovénie, Japon, Corée du Sud, Chine, Hong Kong, Taïwan, Australie et aux États-unis. Marija Aupy (piano) et Philippe Geiss (saxophone), tous deux passionnés de musique de chambre, cultivent un langage « crossover » à travers des œuvres originales et des arrangements de Philippe Geiss.

Duo Ostinato is an encounter where the demands of interpretation rub shoulders with the freedom of improvisation. Founded in 2015, this group has quickly established a fine international reputation, with concerts in France, Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain, Finland, Hungary, Slovenia, Japan, South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Australia and the USA. Marija Aupy (piano) and Philippe Geiss (saxophone), both passionate about chamber music, cultivate a “crossover” language through original works and arrangements by Philippe Geiss.

Philippe Geiss, saxophonist and composer of international fame, professor at the Strasbourg Superior Academy of Music – HEAR and lecturer at the Paris National Superior Conservatory of Music for hybrid learning and artificial intelligence in music pedagogy. Guest professor at the Senzoku Gakuen College of Tokyo and at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music in Riga. Professor at the European Doctoral College for Musical Interpretation and Artistic Research GLAREAN. He gives concerts and master classes all over the world with Duo Ostinato and other projects. Exceling in very diverse disciplines, he has mastered a repertoire that extends from classical to improvised music. As a composer, his catalog ranges from solo to symphonic repertoire, and is published by Billaudot, Lemoine, Leduc and in his own editions. The artistic direction of Saxopen – the 17th World Saxophone Congress and Festival – in Strasbourg in 2015 was one of the highlights of his career.

Marija Aupy, pianist of Serbian origin, first prize at the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest, Marija Aupy holds several international prizes. A versatile musician, she performs as a soloist, chambre music and orchestra musician, notably with the Hungarian soprano Eva Marton and the Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as with a famous French saxophonist Philippe Geiss in Europe, Asia, the USA and Australia. Deeply convinced of the power of culture and education and the importance of transmission, Marija Aupy teaches piano and pedagogy in Strasbourg and gives master classes in different countries around the world. Her discography includes albums featuring works by Scriabin, Schedrin, Chopin, Ravel, Haydn, Beethoven, Bartok and many others.
